Litchfield’s Frank Daggett Post #35 was the first Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) meeting hall built in Minnesota and now is the only one of its kind remaining.  Civil war artifacts and original furnishings are maintained by the Meeker County Historical Society.  Visitors from around the country and the world are intrigued by this unique facility that retains its historic appearance and remains a memorial to Civil War Veterans.

The Meeker County Historical Museum was added at the rear of the building in 1960.  This two story building  includes an authentic 1868 log cabin, early farming and blacksmith equipment, clothing, household items and much more.  A nice variety of Indian artifacts is on display, as well as items from the U.S.-Dakota war of 1862 which began in Meeker County’s Acton

The Meeker County Historical Society– MCHS- is made up of members from around the county and around the country. If you’re not already a member, we welcome you to a group working together to preserve this important historical sight!
